Best Times to Visit Disney for the Holidays

The holiday season transformation starts overnight on October 31, but it does take a few days into weeks for a full transformation. Magic Kingdom will usually be decorated first and other parks will quickly follow.

The holidays can be a popular time to visit but there are several times with less crowds. The middle of November before Thanksgiving sees lower crowds, as does early December, typically before kids are out of school. If these times don’t work with your schedule, don’t worry! When you work with a Travel Advisor like myself, I can help you maximize your park days and make the most of your time with friends and family.

What Tickets Will You Need?

To experience many of the holiday offerings, a park ticket will be required. There are a number of options available including Base Tickets (one park per day) and Park Hopper Tickets (multiple parks per day). If you only have a weekend to take in all the decorations and holiday cheer, I recommend purchasing a Park Hopper so you can visit as many parks as possible.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for promotions that will help you save on your trip. When you book your vacation through a Travel Advisor like myself, I will monitor your reservation and apply eligible promotions.

Special Holiday Events at Disney

Disney also offers special Holiday parties throughout November and December on select nights. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is held at Magic Kingdom and Disney Jollywood Nights is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A limited number of tickets are sold, making this a great way to take advantage of low wait times plus exclusive party experiences. These parties typically sell out so you want to be sure to grab your tickets as soon as dates are announced. Of course, this is something else that I can assist you with during the planning process, making it stress free for you!

The Holidays at Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom truly shines as the crown jewel of holiday magic, offering breathtaking Christmas decorations along Main Street, U.S.A. Seasonal delights are a highlight, with holiday-themed treats available throughout the park. One standout treat is the Mickey-shaped cinnamon roll from Main Street Bakery (the park’s Starbucks location), adorned with icing and festive red and green sprinkles. Each year Disney releases a detailed “Foodie Guide” showcasing all the seasonal offerings, making it easy to plan ahead and ensure you don’t miss your favorites.

While characters don’t wear their holiday attire during the day, at exclusive Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, you can see your favorite characters in their festive attire. Guests can meet and take photos with characters decked out in festive costumes throughout the event. The park also transforms several attractions with holiday overlays, such as the Jungle Cruise becoming the festive Jingle Cruise, complete with holiday-themed jokes and decorations (also available during regular park hours). Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor also get seasonal updates for the party.

The holiday magic extends to entertainment as well. While daytime parades maintain their usual schedule, the Christmas party features Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, a must-see spectacle with Santa Claus, dancing reindeer, beloved characters, and more. For those visiting during Christmas week, this parade is included in the daytime schedule for all guests to enjoy.

The Holidays at EPCOT

EPCOT is a standout destination during the holiday season, blending thrilling attractions, delicious cuisine, and nostalgic charm. One of the park’s highlights is the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, which runs from late November through December. A signature event of the festival is the Candlelight Processional, where celebrity narrators bring the Christmas story to life through inspiring performances. To secure the best views, consider a dining package that includes reserved seating—a perfect way to enhance this unforgettable experience.

Another unique feature of the festival is the storytelling performances from around the world. Guests can hear holiday legends and traditions from 10 featured storytellers. As expected, EPCOT’s culinary offerings shine during the festival, with Holiday Kitchens located throughout the park. These kiosks serve a wide variety of seasonal specialties, from indulgent sweets to savory dishes like turkey poutine. Best of all, the festival is included with your regular park admission—no additional ticket is required.

EPCOT also adds holiday magic to its attractions. Living with the Land transforms into a festive experience at night, featuring dazzling holiday decor throughout the ride.

The Holidays at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The holiday decor at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is nothing short of enchanting, and it’s hard not to smile when Gertie the Dinosaur dons her Christmas best! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also home to the festive Jollywood Nights, a special holiday event where guests have been embracing a more elegant style for the occasion.

One of my personal favorites at Hollywood Studios is the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, which features a delightful holiday twist during the season. It’s a must-do for my family every visit, whether it’s Christmas-themed or not. Meanwhile, Toy Story Land, known for its whimsical oversized Christmas lights year-round, gets an extra dose of festive cheer during the holidays.

Sunset Seasons Greetings, the evening projection show on Sunset Boulevard is another seasonal highlight. This visually stunning experience is available nightly, with additional showtimes during Jollywood Nights.

For families looking to meet characters in their holiday attire, I highly recommend Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine. This buffet-style dining experience not only offers delicious food but also the chance to meet beloved characters decked out for the season—all without waiting in line.

And, of course, don’t forget to take advantage of Disney PhotoPass photographers in every park, many of whom offer special holiday-themed photo opportunities to help you capture the magic of the season!

Pro Tip: When working with a travel advisor like myself, I will work with you to ensure you maximize your park time. That can mean ensuring you make it to rope drop, utilize lightning lane, booking a VIP tour or just working on dining reservations. A travel advisor can help keep your travel experience hassle free.

The Holidays at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers a truly unique take on holiday decor, seamlessly blending nature and festive charm throughout the park. Unlike some of the other Disney parks, Animal Kingdom does not host a separate holiday party, so all seasonal offerings are included with your regular park ticket.

One of the standout features during the holiday season is the Merry Menagerie, a delightful display of life-sized animal puppets brought to life by talented puppeteers. You can find them just outside the shops near the park entrance—a whimsical experience that’s not to be missed. For the best view of the holiday decorations, staying until dark is a must. The park’s lands come alive with twinkling lights, and the Tree of Life features a mesmerizing holiday-themed projection show. Nighttime at Animal Kingdom is truly magical, and as a bonus, rides like Expedition Everest often feel even more thrilling in the dark!

If meeting characters in their holiday attire is on your list, Mickey and Minnie can be found dressed for the season at the Adventure Outpost. Even Santa makes an appearance for photo opportunities.

Pro Tip: Don’t try to do everything. Choose a few special experiences and truly enjoy them. The magic of Disney is in the moments, not in checking off every single activity. Take breaks and ensure you and your family are taking your time together in.

The Christmas season at Disney World is more than just a vacation – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that creates memories to last a lifetime. From the twinkling lights to the festive shows, every moment is designed to fill you with wonder and joy. Even if a park day doesn’t fit your budget, you can experience the magic at all the Disney resorts and at Disney Springs.
