The Basics

Disney’s Fort Wilderness is nestled in 750 acres of pine and cypress forest and located in the Magic Kingdom Resort area. The resort and campgrounds are made up of a collection of campsites and The Cabins, which recently became a Disney Vacation Club property but is still available to be booked with cash rates.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are considered a Deluxe Villa Resort for stays booked as a Disney Vacation Club reservation and guests therefore get the benefits of a Deluxe Resort Guest, including Extended Evening Hours on select nights at certain parks. For stays in The Cabins booked as a cash rate, guests unfortunately do not receive the Deluxe Resort benefits.

The Cabins at Fort Wilderness

The newly reimagined cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort seamlessly blend rustic charm with contemporary comforts, offering guests a unique “glamping” experience in the heart of Walt Disney World. Each standalone, one-bedroom cabin spans approximately 504 square feet and is thoughtfully designed to accommodate up to six guests. The interiors feature vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere. The open-concept layout includes a queen-sized bed, twin bunk beds, and a queen-sized pull-down Murphy bed in the living area, ensuring ample sleeping arrangements for families or groups. A fully equipped kitchen boasts modern appliances, including a full-size oven and stovetop, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher, complemented by a dining area that comfortably seats six. The bathroom is family-friendly, featuring a spacious walk-in shower and an additional vanity area to facilitate busy mornings.

Throughout the cabins, guests will find whimsical Disney touches, such as Chip ‘n Dale-themed artwork and hidden Mickeys, adding a playful nod to the resort’s heritage. Outside, each cabin offers a private patio complete with a dining table, lounge chairs, and a charcoal grill, perfect for enjoying the serene woodland surroundings. Emphasizing sustainability, the cabins are constructed with energy-efficient features, including reflective solar panel roofs and on-site electric vehicle charging stations.

Pros & Cons of The Cabins at Fort Wilderness

Pros of Staying a Disney’s Fort Wilderness

  • Unique, Immersive Atmosphere: Fort Wilderness offers a peaceful, wooded escape that feels worlds away from the theme parks—great for relaxing after a busy day. It’s one of the most immersive and nature-centric resorts at Disney.
  • Abundant Recreation: From horseback riding and canoeing to archery and campfire sing-alongs with Chip ‘n’ Dale, there’s no shortage of activities. Many families find they can spend a full day—or more—just enjoying the resort.
  • Convenient Access to Magic Kingdom: A scenic boat ride takes you directly to Magic Kingdom, one of the most relaxing and pleasant ways to arrive at a park.
  • Pet-Friendly: Fort Wilderness is one of four Disney resorts that welcomes pets, with designated pet loops and a dog park.
  • Full Kitchens in Cabins: The cabins feature well-equipped kitchens, allowing guests to cook their own meals and potentially save money on dining.
  • Golf Cart Fun: Renting a golf cart is both practical and fun, offering a unique way to explore the expansive resort grounds.

Cons of Staying a Disney’s Fort Wilderness

  • Spread-Out Layout: Fort Wilderness is large and sprawling, which can be inconvenient without a golf cart or using internal buses. Walking long distances to pools, dining, or transportation may not suit everyone.
  • Limited Dining Options: Compared to other deluxe resorts, Fort Wilderness has fewer table-service restaurants. Hoop-Dee-Doo is a highlight, but if you want fine dining or lots of variety, you’ll need to travel to other resorts or parks.
  • Can Feel Isolated: While the natural setting is a plus for some, others might miss the energy and convenience of being closer to the action and amenities of more traditional Disney resorts.
  • Less “Disney” Theming: The theming is more rustic than magical. While there are touches of Disney (like Chip ‘n’ Dale and hidden Mickeys), it’s not as immersive in Disney characters or storytelling as other resorts.
  • Bugs and Weather: Being in a wooded, campground environment in Florida means more exposure to insects, heat, and rain—especially in warmer months.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Stay

Here are some helpful tips to make the most of your stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabins, whether you’re a first-timer or a returning guest looking to maximize the magic and comfort of this unique resort:

  • Rent a Golf Cart Early: Fort Wilderness is huge, and while buses are available, golf carts are by far the most convenient and fun way to get around. They often sell out, so reserve one as soon as you book your stay.
  • Take Advantage of the Full Kitchen: The cabins come equipped with a full kitchen, including a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and full-size fridge. Bring groceries or have them delivered (via services like Instacart or AmazonFresh) to save money on meals and enjoy relaxing breakfasts before heading to the parks.
  • Plan a Resort-Only Day: With so much to do—canoeing, archery, bike rentals, swimming, and Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long—it’s worth dedicating at least one day to enjoy everything the resort has to offer.
  • Book Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue in Advance: If you want to see the iconic dinner show at Pioneer Hall, reservations are essential. This popular, family-friendly experience includes all-you-can-eat food and high-energy entertainment.
  • Pack for the Outdoors: Bug spray, sunscreen, ponchos, and comfortable walking shoes are a must. Even though you’re in a Disney resort, you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors and in wooded areas.
  • Use Mobile Order for Dining: Trail’s End and Meadow Snack Bar both offer Mobile Order through the My Disney Experience app—perfect for grabbing food quickly before hitting the pool or heading to the parks.
  • Decorate Your Cabin (Seasonally or Just for Fun!): Many guests decorate their cabins and golf carts—especially around Halloween and Christmas. Bring along string lights, window clings, or Disney-themed yard signs to join the festive spirit.
  • Get Familiar with the Internal Bus Routes: If you’re not using a golf cart, study the resort’s internal bus loops (Orange, Yellow, Purple) to avoid getting lost. It’s helpful for getting between your cabin, the Settlement, and the Outpost bus stops.
  • Bring or Rent Bikes: Biking is a great way to explore the quiet trails of Fort Wilderness. You can bring your own or rent bikes from the Bike Barn near the Meadow area.
  • Don’t Skip the Campfire Sing-A-Long: Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire is free for all guests, and you can bring your own marshmallows or buy a s’mores kit on-site. It’s a relaxing, low-key way to end the day with a movie under the stars.

  1. In your Convenience section, you state Laundry facilities are available at various locations throughout the resort, and cabins have in-unit washers and dryers.
I do not believe that is true.
