Everything You Need to Pack for Disney

When it comes to planning a Disney vacation, the excitement can often overshadow the importance of efficient packing. With long park days and changing weather, you’ll want to be sure you’ve packed everything you need to have a smooth and enjoyable trip. Below are some packing tips I’ve learned over my many Disney trips that will help you have a stress-free vacation.

Make a Packing List

Before you start tossing items into your suitcase, download a packing list. Review the packing list and think about the number of days/nights you’re away and how many times you plan to change each day (i.e. will you get changed for dinner?). Using the packing list, start laying out your clothing, toiletries, personal items, and any special Disney-themed attire or accessories. Determine if there’s anything you’ll need to purchase before your trip (here’s my must have list). Once you’ve placed something in your bag, check it off the list. This will help you avoid the last-minute rush and ensure you don’t forget important items.

Dress for the Weather

Check the weather forecast for your Disney destination and pack accordingly. Both Orlando, Florida (Walt Disney World) and Anaheim, California (Disneyland) can experience a variety of weather conditions including heat, rain, and the cold. Layering is a great idea, so you can adjust your clothing as needed. Don’t forget a rain poncho or umbrella; sudden showers can happen, and you don’t want your day to be ruined by getting soaked!

Disney-Themed Attire

Part of the fun of visiting Disney is showing off your Disney spirit with themed clothing and accessories! Bring your favorite Disney-themed t-shirts, hats, or even costumes, especially if you have young children. You can also find plenty of Disney merchandise at the parks, but having some ahead of time can save you money and make your vacation even more magical.

Stay Hydrated

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about the basics. Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in the heat. Carry refillable water bottles to save money on buying bottled water in the park. Most Disney parks offer water refill stations and you can stop at quick service locations and get complimentary cups of water, so you can top up your bottles throughout the day. Staying hydrated will help you endure long lines and make the most of your Disney experience!

Pack Snacks

Pack some non-perishable snacks like granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit to keep you fueled between meals. While you’ll definitely want to try out some of the yummy Disney snacks around the parks, they can be expensive. Having your own supply can help you save a bit and might come in handy should you need something quick.

Entertainment to Pass the Time

While waiting in line for popular Disney attractions, having some form of entertainment can be a game-changer, especially with kids. You can use your phone and check out the Disney Play app or play a game like Heads Up. One of my favorite things to do it read a book on the Kindle app to pass the time. If you do plan on using your phone a lot while in lines, be sure to bring an external phone charger that you can use when your battery starts to go down.

Plan for Souvenirs

It’s nearly impossible to resist the allure of Disney merchandise. Plan ahead for souvenirs by packing a small, foldable duffel bag within your luggage. This way, you’ll have space to bring home all the Disney treasures you find in the parks without going over your baggage weight limit.

Remember that you can send merchandise home when you purchase it at the parks, but there is a cost associated with this service. If you’re interested in doing this, ask a cast member at a merchandise location.

Don’t Over Pack

I know it can be difficult, but try to pack as light as possible, especially if you plan on purchasing a few items while in the parks! It’s easy to overpack, but remember that Disney parks have laundry facilities at all resorts. You can wash clothes if needed, so you don’t need to pack a fresh outfit for each day.

Packing for a Disney vacation can be a fun and exciting process, as long as you plan ahead. With these tips, you can ensure that your trip to the happiest place on earth is memorable for all the right reasons. So, pack your bags, put on your Mickey ears, and get ready for an adventure filled with magic, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
